PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's lacrosse team was back at home to host the Ashland University Eagles for another conference match. The Storm put up a fight in the afternoon game, but was unsuccessful as the Eagles took the win with a score of 16-9. Junior Cassidy Bourne led the Storm in offense, recording her career high of five goals. The Storm move to a 0-4 conference record and a 3-7 overall record.
The Eagles took control of the game early in the first period, taking a 6-0 lead. Lake Erie responded with two goals in the second; one from an unassisted free position goal by freshman Madelyn Goodrich, and the other from Bourne, from Goodrich. Ashland continued to score, recording seven in the second period.
With a 13-2 score going into the half, the Storm kept fighting back. After another Ashland goal, the Storm answered with two more goals. Bourne shot an unassisted goal, followed by an unassisted goal from sophomore Erin Snyder to make it 14-4 to end the third period.
Lake Erie outscored the Eagles in the last period, with five goals to make the final score 16-9, Ashland. Bourne started the scoring run early in the fourth, unassisted. Snyder scored her second unassisted goal of the day soon after. Bourne would score two more unassisted goals, achieving her career high of five in one game. Goodrich ended the run with another goal, shortening the gap in the score.
Freshman Ainsley Sutter was in the goal for the Storm, recording four saves. Sophomore Shannon Smith picked up three ground balls for the day.
The Storm are back at home on Wednesday, April 5th for a non conference game against the Trine University Thunder at 5 PM.
