Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Albright, Beckett Scare #8 Lakers in Close Contest

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team hosted the #8 Mercyhurst Lakers for their final home game of the regular season tonight. The Storm gave the Lakers a scare but fell just short, losing 14-12.

Coming into today's contest, the Storm had lost their last seven in a row to Mercyhurst and had given up 20+ goals in the previous four. Right from the beginning, however, Lake Erie made it very apparent that they were going to make the Lakers play hard for all 60 minutes.

The Storm got off to a hot start to begin the game, scoring their first goal in less than a minute and going up 2-1 very quickly. The two teams kept it tight and finished the first quarter with the Storm in front, 4-3. The Lakers took the lead in the second quarter but by the end of the first half, the Storm sent a very frustrated Mercyhurst team into their locker room with just a 6-5 lead.

The third quarter proved to be a very scrappy one but Lake Erie managed to tie the game back up on a Joey Ellison interception and goal with just 22 seconds remaining in the quarter.

In the fourth, Mercyhurst started to find a groove. After not allowing the Lakers to get more than a two-goal advantage the entire game, the Storm would surrender three straight goals and go down 14-10 with under five minutes left in the game.

Dawson Kindall and Kevin Albright would respond fairly quickly with a goal each but that would be it for the Storm as they fell just short, 14-12 in one of their most exciting games of the season.

Albright led the team with five goals and one assist while freshman goalkeeper Noah Beckett had a fantastic performance, recording 15 saves and helping keep the Storm competitive against the #8 Lakers.

The loss now takes Lake Erie's record to 5-8 on the season and they drop to 3-2 in conference play. They will be back in action on Saturday, April 22nd on the road to face the Davis & Elkins Senators at 1 PM.
