PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's lacrosse team hosted the Davenport University Panthers for a regular season day game, securing a close 15-14 win. The Storm and Panthers were neck and neck throughout the match, yet a fourth quarter comeback from Lake Erie gave them the win. The Storm now sit at a 1-4 record overall.
Senior
Jackman Schooley started off the day with an unassisted goal. Senior
Brendan Luthart was right behind with another goal from sophomore
Joey Ellison, giving the Storm an early 2-0 lead. The Storm and the Panthers stayed competitive throughout the first half, finishing only down by three at 10-7, Panthers.
The Storm came into the second half shooting, with a goal from senior
Connor Dent from freshman
Billy Coughlin. Coughlin then got his own goal shortly after from Luthart, shorting the gap to 10-9, Panthers up.
In the fourth period, Schooley tied things up 11-11 with an unassisted goal. This started a short scoring run, with back to back goals from senior
Dawson Kindall (from Coughlin), and Luthart (unassisted). With the Storm now up 13-11, the Panthers responded with a goal, which was quickly answered by Dent (assisted by Kindall). The Panthers were able to score two more goals, yet the Storm held their one point lead to finalize it at 15-14.
Sophomore
Kenneth Shobert was in the net for the Storm for most of the game, recording nine saves. Senior
Mike Flury picked up nine ground balls for the day, with Dent right behind with five. Dent, Coughlin, and Schooley each had three goals for the day, leading the Storm.
The Storm look to their next game on Sunday, March 12th, when they host the Saint Michael's College Purple Nights at 1:00 PM.
