PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team hosted the Frostburg State Bobcats for their home opener last night, February 25. Despite their recent struggles, the Storm would battle fiercely with the Bobcats but fall in the final seconds, 15-14.
The Storm, coming off an 0-3 road trip looked to get things back on track by securing a win against a tough Frostburg State team who is currently receiving top-25 votes by the USILA.
Lake Erie looked like a well oiled machine to start the game, maintaining control of the ball and scoring twice in the first couple minutes of play.
It would be a constant back and forth the remainder of the first half but it was the Bobcats who would take the lead into the locker room at the half, with a slight 8-7 edge over the Storm.
Frostburg State would start to pull away in the second half and manage to take a 14-11 in the final quarter. In the final 13 minutes of play the Storm would start chip away at that lead while only surrendering one more to the Bobcats. With 17 seconds remaining
Brendan Luthart would score for the Storm and bring them within one point. With the game on the line, the Storm's last hope was in the hands of the upcoming face off. Frostburg State would manage to win it and run out the rest of the clock, giving Lake Erie a 15-14 loss.
Luthart would lead Lake Erie with five goals and five points.
Dawson Kindall would also tally five points while scoring four goals himself and assisting on one.
The loss now drops the Storm's record to 0-4 to start the season. They will be back in action on Wednesday, March 8 to host Davenport University at 1:00 PM
