Storm Start Season with Two Wins at Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Georgia — The Lake Erie women's softball team traveled to Young Harris College to face the Mountain Lions for the season opener double header. The Storm swept the Mountain Lions in back to back seven inning games. These wins not only give head coach Grace Jackson her first NCAA coaching wins, but is the first softball coach to win their LEC coaching debut since 2011.

GAME 1

The Storm beat the Mountain Lions 6-3 in game one. Senior pitcher Grace Hammer threw 171 pitches, breaking the school record for most pitches thrown in a game. Hammer surpassed the previous record of 144 pitches by Kaylie Lewis on April 4, 2015 against Grand Valley State. Junior infielder Ava Scott started the game with a home run in left field, recording three RBIs. Sophomore catcher Jasmine Gonzales hit her first career home run in the fourth inning, recording two RBIs. Sophomore CJ Garcia stole third base and scored on a throwing error in the sixth inning. This win gave coach Jackson her first win of the season.

GAME 2

Lake Erie took their second win of the day against Young Harris with a score of 8-7. Garcia scored two home runs, to start and finish the game. Junior middle infielder Jordyn Hawkins homered to left field in the fourth inning, picking up three RBIs.
