DAHLONEGA, Georgia – The Lake Erie women's softball team traveled to the University of North Georgia for their second doubleheader of the season. The Storm fell 0-6 in the first game, and 2-3 in a close second game taken to nine innings.
GAME 1
The Storm were unable to combat North Georgia's pitcher, as they had a single hit in the first game. Sophomore infielder Rachel Varga was the Storm's sole hitter in the seven inning game. Senior pitcher Grace Hammer threw four strikeouts against the Nighthawks.
GAME 2
Despite a slow start in the second game, the Storm was able to score in the sixth inning off of freshman Lillian Campbell's single up the middle. Recording an RBI, Campbell was able to send sophomore Maddie Pawlak home for the Storm's first run of the day. Sophomore catcher Jasmine Gonzales slammed a double down the right field line to cash in an RBI in the seventh inning. Freshman Emma Kovalchuk was able to score the second run of the game, tying up the score 2-2. Pushing a ninth inning, the Nighthawks secured the 3-2 win off a pop fly to center field. Senior pitcher Carly Rowland threw three strikeouts.
The Storm now sit at a 2-2 record early in the 2023 season. Following a short break, Lake Erie heads to Florida for a string of Spring games, starting against the Lewis University Flyers on Sunday, March 5th for a single seventh inning game at 11:30 AM.
