CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Storm Men's basketball team traveled south Saturday, December 2, for their second G-MAC contest against the Malone Pioneers. Lake Erie was backed by a career high 31 point performance by Jonny Manning, beating the Pioneers 74-69. With their first conference win of the season they improve to 3-5 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
After being down by three at the half, Lake Erie came out shooting the ball hot, posting a 51% shooting percentage from the floor in the second half. They finished with a balanced 46.7% from the floor and from behind the arch. The Storm had 12 points off turnovers, from 7 Pioneer turnovers. Lake Erie dominated in the paint outscoring the Pioneers 40-30.
Jonny Manning led the Storm with a career high 31 points in 31 minutes. Manning generated most of the Storm's offenses scoring or assisting on 39 of the Storm's total 74 points. also finished with three rebounds, three assists, and the team's only two blocks. Jacob Plantz was the next highest scorer with 11 points, seven boards, and one assist. Leon Hughes added a team high eight rebounds and nine points. C.J. Hornbeak played a team high 33 minutes for the Storm adding in a team high six assists and nine points.
