ASHLAND, Ohio- The Lake Erie women's basketball team traveled to Ashland, Ohio to take on the No. 1 ranked Ashland University Eagles to start Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Storm fell behind early and could not close the gap, resulting in a final score of 84-38. This loss brings the Storms record 1-2 (0-1 G-MAC).
Despite a layup from freshman Kylie Maxwell to put the Storm on the board first, the Eagles quickly took the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back. The Storm struggled to compete against the Eagles defense as they turned the ball over 26 times, which resulted in the Eagles scoring 36 of their points off turnovers.
The Storm were led by freshman Nina Shaffer who had 10 points and went 4-5 from the field. She also added one assist and one rebound. Freshman Gabrielle Russell led the team in rebounds with six. Maxwell led the defense with two blocks and a steal. She also had six points and four rebounds.Â
The Storm will be back in action when they travel to Malone University to take on Pioneers. This game will continue G-MAC play and will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m.
