YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's basketball team continued their season today with an exhibition match against the Youngstown State Penguins on the road. The Storm gave the Penguins a scare in the first half but would ultimately fall 79-57.
The Storm quickly went down 6-0 to start the game against their DI opponent. After back-to-back baskets by
Jonny Manning and
Kelvin Swims, the Storm found themselves right back in it however.
Both teams would stay within striking distance of each other for a good chunk of the half, but after a three-pointer by Youngstown State's Brandon Rush, the Storm found themselves down by 13 with 6:52 remaining.
Desperate to finish the half strong, Lake Erie put together a 9-0 run in the final 3:25 of play and tied the game at 32-32 going into the second half.
The Storm started the second half out strong but Youngstown State's physicality and size would start to show. The Penguins took control of the game and finished with a 79-57 victory.
Lake Erie will be back in action on Tuesday November 21st at 7 p.m. on the road against Wayne State before returning home for one last non-conference matchup against Thiel College before starting conference play against Hillsdale on November 30th.
