ERIE, Pennsylvania – The Lake Erie women's basketball team started their 2023-2024 season in Erie, PA against the Mercyhurst Lakers. The Storm came up short, falling 36-84 to the Lakers. This loss brings their record to 0-1 on the season.

The Storm would compete in the first quarter when sophomore transfer Grace Lyon would get the first points of the game. However in the remaining five minutes, the Storm would get out shot 13-1 to close out the quarter. In the second quarter, the Lakers defense limited the Storm to only 5 points. The Lakers continued their run in the second half and the Storm could not catch up. 

Sophomore transfer Ryan Elbert and freshman Sophie Chipps lead the Storm in scoring, both with 10 points. Junior Anna Ibos and freshman Kylie Maxwell both lead the team in rebounds with six. 

The Storm will be back in action when they travel to Lake Superior State to take on the Lakers on Saturday, November 18th at 1PM.
