PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie women's soccer team battled the No. 1-ranked Ashland University Eagles for another Great Midwest match. The Storm would compete well in the first half, but fall 4-1. The loss brings the Storm's record to 1-8-1 (0-6 G-MAC)
The Eagles got off to a strong start in the half with an immediate goal off of a penalty kick in the fourth minute. However, the Storm defense would perform well the rest of the way as that would be the only goal in the half.
The Eagles had a few more opportunities to score, but due to the Storm's strong defense combined with Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Vanmeter's two saves, they were unable to convert. The Storm's lone shot of the half would be attempted by Florida Blake, however she was unable to find the net.
The Eagles offense came out strong in the second half and they scored a goal in the 50th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. In the 64th minute, the Eagles would attempt numerous shots, and were able to find the net to bring the lead to 3-0. Less than five minutes later, they would score again. Despite being down 4-0, the Storm continued to fight and Junior Madison Amburgey would score the first goal of her career on a beautifully placed ball in the top left corner of the net to put the Storm on the board. However, this would not be enough as time ran out on the clock.
The Storm will be back on their home field Saturday, October 7th at 3:30pm to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers.
