PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's volleyball team hosted the Malone Pioneers for another G-MAC game. The Storm were successful in a three set match, picking up their second conference match of the season. The team advances to a 2-6 conference record and are 3-13 overall.
Set one stayed consistent on both sides, with an 11-11 tie in the middle. Senior captain Dora Olah, senior Anna Lewis, and sophomore Jessica Ickes turned up the offense for the Storm, along with errors from the Pioneers to give Lake Erie a 16-12 lead. Malone tried to make a comeback, but more errors and solid offense from the Storm gave them the 25-16 win.
Senior Alana Stevens started the second set with a 3-0 service run. The Pioneers stayed persistent, but senior Katelyn McMoore and Olah continued to put the ball away with more kills. Malone could not find a stop, with Olah recording a service ace for set point giving the Storm the second set, 25-17.
The third set stayed in Lake Erie's favor due to continuous Malone errors. McMoore, freshman Lauren Pallone, and Lewis recorded the six kills of the third set. The Pioneers gave final efforts at the end, but the Storm took the match winning set 25-21 to secure another G-MAC win.
Olah finished the match with 11 kills, with McMoore and Ickes following with six kills each. Ickes also recorded four solo blocks for the night. Junior captain setter Simone Schurr finished with 17 assists, and Sayles with nine assists running a six-two lineup. Stevens picked up nine digs, and sophomore libero Brooklyn Broadway picked up eight.
The Storm are on the road for their next game to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Friday, October 6th at 6:00 PM
