CANTON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team traveled to Canton, Ohio today for their second matchup of the year against the Malone Pioneers. The Pioneers would surprise the Storm by putting up a fight but by the end Lake Erie would come away with a 3-2 victory.

In the last meeting between the two teams, Malone fought hard and limited the Storm to just tow goals after a 7-0 game the meeting before. In today's matchup, both teams remained scoreless for much of the first half. In the 34th minute, Angel Murillo found Fabian Kiessetz for Lake Erie's first goal of the evening. Less than a minute later however, the Pioneers tied it right back up.

With time dwindling, the Pioneers took a shot in the 44th minute and grabbed a 2-1 lead going into the second half. 

In the 56th minute, Murillo tied things up with a goal of his own on an assist from Marcos Somohano.

The Storm kept pressure on the Pioneers allowing just one shot the remainder of the game and in the 79th minute, Maximilian Lintschinger gave Lake Erie the lead and the win on an assist from Tomas Fernandez.

The win gives the Storm a record of 10-5-2 (8-3-2 G-MAC) with just one contest remaining in the 2023 regular season. They will face off against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, October 31st at 7 p.m. and await their next opponent when they compete in the opening round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.
