PANESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team hosted the Ohio Dominican Panthers today in another Great Midwest matchup for their final regular season home game. The Storm set the tempo in the game and took care of the Panthers, 4-2.
Over the past few seasons, the Lake Erie and Ohio Dominican men's soccer matchups have budded into a rivalry. Since the start of the 2020-21 season, the series has resulted in a 3-3-1 record with each game being just as chippy as the last.
In today's contest, the Storm got things started in the 29th minute when
Biel Font put in a header from
Angel Murillo. The Storm would take that 1-0 lead into halftime but came out hot in the second half, scoring in just 31 seconds with a goal by
Tom Akinola, assisted by
Aaron Garrote.
In the 52nd minute, the Panthers finally got on the board on a penalty kick but gave the goal right back when they scored on themselves during a Lake Erie corner kick.
In the 68th minute,
Wassim Metatla found the back of the net on Garrote's second assist of the game.
Ohio Dominican managed to score once more but Lake Erie would come out on top, 4-2.
The Storm out shot the Panthers 18-9 in the contest with eight of those shots on goal.
The win now brings Lake Erie's record to 9-5-2 on the season and 7-3-2 in G-MAC play. They will be back in action Saturday, October 28th on the road to face the Malone Pioneers before concluding their regular season on Tuesday October 31st against Cedarville.
