PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's volleyball team continued their run of home games as they hosted the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans for another G-MAC match. Strong efforts from the Storm were not enough to take a set from the Trojans, as Trevecca Nazarene took all three. The team moves to a 2-10 conference record and a 3-20 overall record.
The first set stayed close throughout, starting off with kills from freshman Ni'yah Fuggs and senior captain Dora Olah. The Trojans went on a run in the middle of the set to take a lead of 15-9. Errors from the Trojans mixed with kills from Fuggs and an ace from Olah tried to bring the Storm back, but Trevecca Nazarene took the first set 25-15.
Lake Erie started the second set off strong with kills from freshman Kennady Wiley and senior Katelyn McMoore. Despite an 11-11 tie with fighting efforts from both sides, the Trojans were able to take a 22-12 lead after a long run. The Storm quickly answered with a service run led by Olah, with aces, Trojan errors, and Storm kills to bring it to 22-19 Lake Erie down by three. Olah fought with another kill at the end, but the Trojans kept solid offense down to the final set score of 25-20.
The Storm did not give up, with senior Alana Stevens starting off the third set with an ace. Back and forth points from both sides of the net kept the score tight. However, a short run from the Trojans gave them a lead that the Storm could not tie up. Storm errors and kills gave Trevecca Nazarene the game winning set, 25-19.
Fuggs led the Storm in offense with ten kills, followed by Olah with nine. Junior captain Simone Schurr recorded 13 assists and junior Sarah Leyden finished with 12. Junior libero Brooklyn Broadway picked up 14 digs.
Lake Erie heads to Ursuline College on Tuesday, October 24th to take on the Arrows for another G-MAC match at 6:00 PM.
