TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team traveled today to take on the Tiffin Dragons in an important Great Midwest matchup with the outcome determining regular season standings, G-MAC tournament seeding, and regional rankings. Both teams kept each other in check throughout the contest but the Dragons managed to get a goal in and take the match, 1-0.
The Storm came hot out of the gate and played a physical game. Despite the physicality, the Dragons managed to control the field early on. In the 17th minute, they were able to get one past the Lake Erie goalkeeper and take a 1-0 lead.
The Storm out shot the Dragons 5-4 to finish out the half but none of them would go through the net.
In the second half, Tiffin continued their strong defense and held Lake Erie to six shots and no goals resulting in a 1-0 Dragon win.
Both teams would combine for three yellow cards and one red card in the match, with Storm defender
Fabian Kiessetz getting the red card on a questionable call after he attempted to poke the ball free from a Tiffin attacker on a slide.Â
With the loss, the Storm are mathematical eliminated from captured the G-MAC regular season title. They remain in second place and aim to finish the season strong before entering the conference tournament.
Their record sits at 8-5-2 (6-3-2 G-MAC). They will be back in action on Tuesday, October 24th against Ohio Dominican at 1 PM for their last home game of the regular season.
