KENOSHA, Wisconsin -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin today to face the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers in a non-conference matchup. The Storm came away with 2-0 victory over the Rangers who currently rank 6th in the United Soccer Coaches Regional Rankings.
Lake Erie got off to a strong offense start in the contest, managing to get a shot off in just the first minute of play. The Rangers defense would adjust however and prevent the Storm from getting off another shot until the 11th minute.
In the 40th minute,
Mathi Ott was able to find
Aaron Garrote for a goal and put the Storm up 1-0.
In the 44th minute, Lake Erie caught a break when a Wisconsin-Parkside foul led to a penalty kick. Ott would take the kick and successfully score to put his team up 2-0 going into the second half.
Neither team was able to score in the final 45 minutes, and the Storm walked away with a very important victory over the Rangers.
Ott led the way offensively with one goal and one assist while goalkeeper
Cooper Cook earned his third shutout victory of the season in the contest.
The win gives Lake Erie a 8-4-2 record on the season. They will be back in action on Friday, October 20th at 2:30 p.m. on the road for another important matchup as they face the Tiffin Dragons who currently hold the best record in the Great Midwest.
