ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team traveled to Ashland, Ohio today to take on the Ashland Eagle in a highly anticipated rematch. The Storm who lost the first contest against the Eagles on October 4th, would come away with a 2-0 victory and bring their win streak to three games.
The Lake Erie men would wasted no time getting things rolling in the first half. On their first shot of the game in the 6th minute,
Maximilian Lintschinger found
Tom Akinola on a corner kick to put their team up 1-0.
Both teams would continue to get shots off with the Storm holding a slight advantage at 5-4. On the Storm's sixth shot however,
Alex Saggese found net in the 37th minute on an assist by
Randolf Rothe to give Lake Erie an 2-0 lead with a whole half still remaining.
Both teams would get shots off in the second half but none of them would go in, putting the final score at 2-0 with the Storm earning their redemption. With the win, Lake Erie breaks a tie with Ashland and now sit alone at second place in the G-MAC standings.
The win takes the Storm's record to 7-4-2 (6-2-2 G-MAC). The men will be back in action on Tuesday October 17th when they travel to Wisconsin-Parkside to take on the Rangers who currently sit atop the GLIAC standings. The match will start at 12 pm ET.
