FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team took on the University of Findlay Oilers today for their first of four straight road games. A strong second half propelled the Storm to victory as they walked away on top, 3-1.
Despite a lopsided difference in time of possession and field control, Lake Erie played tightly with the Oilers in the first half as both teams managed only three shots a piece which would result in a 0-0 tie at the half.
In the 48th minute,
Tomas Fernandez found a wide open
Tom Akinola for a shot but as Akinola wound up to shoot, a Findlay defender slid in an attempt to knock the ball out of his possession but would end up knocking the ball into his own goal, giving Lake Erie a 1-0 lead.
In the following minute of play, just moments after the first goal,
Wassim Metatla found net for the Storm. His third goal of the season would put Lake Erie up 2-0 with plenty of time still remaining.
The Oilers got one back in the 56th minute, but in the 68th minute
Tom Akinola got his second goal of the game to put the Storm up 3-1 where that would remain the final.
The Storm will be back in action on Saturday, October 14th at 3:30 pm for their rematch against the Ashland Eagles who they currently remain tied with for second in the Great Midwest standings.
