CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie College Storm men's basketball went on the road Saturday January 21 to take on conference opponent Cedarville University. Lake Erie would simply outplay the Yellow Jackets and come away with the victory, 80-71.
After a tough loss to Malone last week and having suffered three losses in a row, the Storm were looking to bounce back against a Cedarville team that they fell to in overtime earlier in the season at home. Lake Erie would stay in the drivers seat by leading in all but two minutes of the contest and challenged the Yellow Jackets to keep up with their impressive 50% shooting on the day.
Lake Erie would take a 12 point lead into the half and lead by as much as 14 at one point and although Cedarville would manage to slightly outscore the Storm in the second half, it would not be enough to come away with the victory.
PJ Jones would lead the way for the Storm on the day with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, with
Jacob Plantz right behind him with 18 of his own.
The victory puts Lake Erie back in the win column with a 9-8 record and improves their conference record to 6-5. The Storm now sit in eighth place in the conference standings which is good enough for the final spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament if the season ended today. Lake Erie will be back home for a three-game homestand starting on Thursday January 26 at 7:30 PM as they welcome the visiting Trevecca Nazarene Trojans.
