PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Storm women's basketball hosted the Ashland University Eagles for their first home game of 2023. The Storm kept up with the Eagles in the first half, yet were bested in the second and fell to a score of 98-64. The Storm's record moves to 2-6 in conference and 6-8 overall.
Senior guard/forward
Abby Matalavage led the Storm for the night, recording 26 points along with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard
Taylor Thomas put away 14 points for the Storm, right behind Matalavage. Senior guard
Angela Fink was another key player in tonight's game, leading in assists with five. Fink also led the team in rebounds as she picked up six. Sophomore guard
Aislyn Hurst was right behind with five rebounds.
The Storm finished the night with a 38.7 field goal percentage, which could not compete with the Eagles' 58.8 field goal percentage. The Storm did put up an impressive 53.3% in the first quarter, but the Eagles were able to combat in the following quarters. The duo of Matalavage and sophomore guard
Anna Ibos helped the Storm shoot a 100% in free throws, going 12-12.
The Storm continue their home play on Saturday, January 14th at 1:00 PM to host the Malone Pioneers for another GMAC match.
