OWENSBORO, Kentucky -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team traveled to Kentucky to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers for another GMAC match. The Storm made a few close calls for a potential tie, but the Panthers went on to secure the 59-45 win. The Storm move to a 2-5 conference record and a 6-7 overall record.
Senior forward Abby Matalavage led the way for Lake Erie with 14 points off of a 4-5 shooting stint. Matalavage also had five rebounds and one assist. Senior guard Angela Fink had a solid overall performance and dropped seven points, nine rebounds, and had four assists. Sophomore guard Aislyn Hurst ended the contest with ten points, three rebounds, and two assists.
The Storm went 15-45 from the field ending at a solid 33.3%. Lake Erie would end the game 7-13 from behind the arch at 53.8%. Lake Erie played solid defense holding Kentucky Wesleyan at 30.6% from the field and 9.1% from the three-point line. Continued defensive pressure kept the Storm in the game and led to a sub-60-point contest for Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Storm return home to continue their inner-conference play with a matchup against the Ashland University Eagles on Thursday, January 12th. Tip-off is at 5:30 PM with the Lake Erie men's team to follow.
