Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College Storm men's soccer team took the field for their home opener, Thursday, September 8, to face the Ohio Dominican Panthers in a rematch of the 2021 G-MAC Championship game. The Storm fell, 3-2 after a hard-fought match that would include five total yellow cards and one red card.
Each team came to play early with both sides playing a tight competitive game. Just 24 minutes into the match, Lake Erie goalkeeper Tomas Wroblewski would earn a red card, removing him from the game and forcing the Storm to play a man down. With this advantage, the Panthers would strike with 8:38 remaining in the first, giving them a 1-0 lead which they would take into the second half.
Ohio Dominican would strike again 15 minutes into the half. Despite going down 2-0 now, this seemed to wake up the Storm lineup as they played with a new sense of urgency and aggressiveness.
Lake Erie would catch a break seven minutes later as a Panther error would lead to them scoring on themselves and cutting their lead down to 2-1.
Three minutes later, the Storm would strike themselves and tie up the game as Tomas Fernandez found Teddy Baker for a goal.
With 13 minutes left, Ohio Dominican would line up for a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Cooper Cook would make a clutch save but as the Storm celebrated, the Panther offense would find the ball and work their way into a goal to give them a 3-2 and the eventual victory.
The loss drops the Storm's record to 1-2-1 and starts them out 0-1 in conference play. They will return to action on Saturday, September 10 as they host Mercyhurst at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium at 7:00 PM before going back on the road to face Great Midwest Athletic Conference newcomer, Northwood.
