Storm Lose to Southwest Baptist on Tucker's Career Day

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Lake Erie College Storm football team took traveled on the road, Saturday, September 24 to face the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. The Storm would not be able to overcome the Bearcat offense and would fall, 52-31.

The Bearcat offense would be on display the entire game and they showed that right away when they marched down the field in five plays on their first drive of the game, giving them an early 7-0 lead.

The Storm would respond right back though as Gerald Gardner would find Jovohn Tucker for a 69-yard touchdown, tying things up 7-7.

Nobody would score the remainder of the quarter but Southwest Baptist would score right at the beginning of the second quarter, giving them the lead again 14-7.

By the end of the half, the Bearcats would be up 21-10, leaving the Storm with plenty of adjustments to make in the final half.

Lake Erie would strike five minutes into the second quarter on another touchdown by Jovohn Tucker, this time a 62-yard play.

With one quarter remaining, the Storm would find themselves in a 35-17 hole. Despite their offensive efforts and another touchdown by Tucker in the quarter, the Lake Erie offense would not be able to keep up with how many points their defense would continue to give up, consequently falling 52-31 by the final whistle.

The highlight of the game would be Tucker's career night as he hauled in seven receptions for a school record, 207 yards, and score three touchdowns as well. Gardner would complete 18-of-34 for 381 yards and throw four touchdowns. Peyton Brown would also impress with four receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown of his own.

The loss takes the Storm's record to 1-3 on the season while they remain at a 1-1 conference record. Lake Erie will be back in action on Saturday, October 1 on the road as they start back up conference play against Tiffin at 4:00 PM.
