No. 10 Northwood Pulls Away Late Against the Storm

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College football team battled No. 10 Northwood University into the second half on Saturday afternoon, but the Timberwolves pulled away late to earn a 41-7 victory over the Storm at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

Northwood took a 17-0 lead into halftime before Lake Erie found the scoreboard early in the third quarter. The Storm put together an eight-play, 65-yard drive, capped by a four-yard touchdown run from Hakeem Quran to cut the deficit to 17-7 with 10:54 remaining in the period.

The Storm had an opportunity to make things more competitive, but a missed field goal left Lake Erie unable to capitalize on its scoring chances. Northwood seized control from there, answering with a 77-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Hamby to Carter Minix with 39 seconds left in the third quarter to extend its advantage to 24-7.

The Timberwolves carried that momentum into the fourth quarter, adding a 30-yard field goal before scoring on touchdown passes of 20 and 52 yards to put the game out of reach.

Quran led the Storm on the ground with 50 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown. Julian Means-Flewellen added 39 yards on five attempts, while quarterback Josh Takats completed 16 of 23 passes for 106 yards.

Defensively, Jaiden Coriano paced Lake Erie with nine tackles. Jalen Joyce recorded six tackles, while Chase Johnson and Kemari Ward each added a sack. Ray-mond Smith also recorded an interception for the Storm.

Northwood finished with 404 yards of total offense, including 342 passing yards, while limiting Lake Erie to 152 total yards. Minix led the Timberwolves with nine receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown.

Lake Erie falls to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Storm return to Jack Britt Memorial Stadium next Saturday, October 24, to host Thomas More at 2 p.m.
