Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Storm women's volleyball team took on the Tiffin University Dragons, dropping three straight sets with close scores. The Storm now have a 2-10 record and the Dragons move to 7-8.
Senior Maria Blatnik lead the Storm in kills for the night, putting away 11. Sophomore Sarah Leyden had 15 assists and sophomore Simone Schurr followed with 14. Senior Kaylee Hiser picked up nine digs.
The Dragons started off the first set with a three point run giving them an early lead, before senior Jordan Taylor put down her first kill of the night to get the Storm going. Senior Dora Olah recorded a kill to bring the score to 5-3, Dragons up by two. The Storm tied it up at 7-7 after another kill from Taylor along with Blatnik's first kill of the match. The score stayed tight, with strong offense from both sides. The score was tied again at 12-12 and 16-16, before the Dragons drew a lead of 19-16 from some Storm errors. Freshman Jessica Ickes placed a nice tip for a kill at 21-19, but the Dragons took the set from Storm errors and solid offense, 25-21.
The second set started off with a short run from the Dragons, ended by a kill from Olah. The Dragons however continued to grow their lead to 10-5. Junior Schlyar Shepherd put away a kill in her season appearance to keep the Storm in it. The Dragons did not back down as they furthered their lead to 15-8. Junior Peyton Lemmer came into the game late in the second set, recording a kill and picking up some digs for the Storm. The Dragons were not stopped, and they took the set 25-13.
Sophomore Brooklyn Broadway entered the third set as libero for the Storm. The third set remained close from the start, with the score being tied throughout. The score was tied at 16-16 after strong offense and defense from the Storm, followed by two more kills from Blatnik. Olah continued the momentum with a kill, and the Storm was up 21-18. The Dragons responded with some kills to tie it up at 21-21, with long rallies in the set. Olah put down two more kills at the end, but Storm errors and kills from the Dragons gave the Dragons the close, match winning set 25-23.
The Storm are back on their home court on Friday, September 23rd to take on the Malone Pioneers at 6:00 PM.
