Indiana, Pa. - The Lake Erie College volleyball team split a pair of matches on day two of the Crimson Hawk Classic, sweeping West Liberty (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) before falling in straight sets to IUP (23-25, 16-25, 14-25).
In the win, Lake Erie hit a strong .236 and had a balanced offensive attack.
Allison Kirch led the way with nine kills, while
Gabrielle Jones finished with eight.
Sadie Nawrocki chipped in six kills to go along with a pair of block assists.
The Storm were never really threatened in either of the first two sets, scoring six straight points to open the match. In the second set, they raced out to a 13-3 lead and never looked back.
The third set was more tightly contested, as the two foes were even at 14-14 at the midway point. It was later tied at 17-17, but the Storm created some separation by scoring five of the next six points en route to securing their second win of the season.
Kirch added nine more kills in the setback to IUP, but after a close first set, the Storm couldn't get much going against the Crimson Hawks.
The first set featured a 6-2 LEC burst that evened the score at 23-23, but an error and an IUP kill finished off the set and helped springboard the Crimson Hawks to victory.
Lake Erie will open G-MAC play on Friday night at Malone. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
