Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio — The women's volleyball traveled to the University of Findlay to take on the Oilers, dropping three straight sets. Their record falls to 2-9 and the Oilers advance to 6-7.
The Oilers took the lead early in the first set, after going on a five point run to make it 5-0. Senior Kariema Rodriguez-Diaz ended the run with her first kill of the match, but the Oilers came right back. Senior Dora Olah and senior Jordan Taylor put away some kills to combat the Oilers. The Storm could not stop the Oilers from going on another run, furthering the Oilers' lead to 15-5. Senior Maria Blatnik and freshman Jessica Ickes recorded a pair of kills, yet the Oilers took the set 25-12 from kills and Storm errors.
Olah started off the second set with a kill to give the Storm some momentum. The Oilers however went on a short run to take an early lead of 4-1. More Storm errors continued the Oilers lead, until Blatnik put down a kill to turn it around. The Storm fought back and tied it up at 10-10. The score stayed close throughout the set, with errors and kills on both sides. The Storm took their first lead of the match after an Oilers' error at 14-13. The Storm kept working off of Oilers' errors and grew a lead of 19-16 going into the end of the set. The Oilers tied it up again at 20-20, with Rodriguez-Diaz recording a kill to combat. The Oilers responded with a kill, followed by Storm errors to give the Oilers the lead at 24-21. Ickes put away a kill, but the Oilers took the set 25-22 after more Storm errors.
The Oilers took an early lead of 6-1 to start the third set. The Storm fought back after an Oilers' error and a double block from junior Katelyn McMoore and Taylor. The Oilers came right back and grew their lead to 9-4. Blatnik and Rodriguez-Diaz put away two kills to try and keep the Storm alive, but the Oilers kept their lead. More Storm errors mixed with strong Oilers offense gave the Oilers a 20-8 lead. Taylor recorded a block and a kill to bring the Storm to double digits toward the end. The Storm could not make a comeback, giving the Oilers the match winning set 25-11.
Sophomore Simone Schurr finished the match with seven assists, and sophomore Sarah Leyden followed with six assists. Olah put away seven kills to lead the Storm, and Schurr and Taylor picked up four digs each.
The Storm return to their home court on Tuesday, September 20th for their next conference match against the Tiffin Dragons.
