Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Storm women's volleyball team competed against the Hillsdale Chargers for their second conference match of the season, losing in 3 sets. The Storm now sits at a 2-7 record, and the Chargers advance to a 8-2 record.
The first set started off with senior outside Dora Olah putting down her first kill of the match. The Storm and the Chargers stayed competitive with a tied score early in the set at 6-6. Junior middle/outside Alexandra Matthews and freshman middle Jessica Ickes put away their first kills for the match. The Chargers went on a short run to take a lead of 10-6, before senior rightside Maria Blatnik ended it with a kill. The Chargers went on another run to further their lead to 18-8. Senior outside Jordan Taylor recorded a kill to gain some momentum, but the Chargers stayed ahead. Split runs gave the Chargers the first set at 25-10.
The Storm started the second set with sophomore Brooklyn Broadway as libero. The teams stayed competitive with another tied score at 6-6. The Chargers pulled ahead with a lead, but the Storm fought back with kills from junior middle Katelyn McMoore, Blatnik, and Taylor. The Chargers grew their lead to 20-12 going into the end of the set. Storm errors and Charger kills gave the Chargers the second set, 25-14.
The third set started off competitive with a kill from senior Taylor Metzler and Olah, along with a service ace from Broadway. The score was tied early at 4-4 before the Chargers went on a run to secure a lead of 8-4. Matthews put down two more kills to fight for the Storm, but the Chargers stayed up. Their lead grew to 22-14, but the Storm wasn't done fighting. Another kill from Blatnik and two service aces from sophomore setter Simone Schurr sparked a Storm run to try and bring them back. With the score at 23-19 Chargers, the Chargers put away a kill and a service ace to take the match winning set, 25-19.
Blatnik and Taylor led the team in kills recording 5 each. Schurr finished the match with 11 assists, and Broadway led the team in digs, finishing with 8. Ickes put away 2 solo blocks.
The Storm take a short break to get ready for their next home match against the Ashland Eagles on Friday, September 16th at 6:00 PM.
