Lake Erie battles hard but comes up short to Indianapolis in home opener

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Amongst the deep snows of Northeast Ohio, the field at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium was cleared and ready to go as the Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team kicked off their 2022 campaign with a tough test as the nationally ranked the University of Indianapolis made the 6-hour trip up to Painesville. The Storm gave the Greyhounds all they could handle, but they would fall by a score of 13-7.

In the first quarter, Dawson Kindall was able to score the first goal of the Storm's season off of a Connor Dent assist on the play. However, the Greyhounds aggressive offensive attack proved difficult to handle as they would lead 4-1 at the end of the period.

In the second period, the Storm offensive attack found its form with 2 goals from Blain Wallace, another one from Dawson Kindall, and one from Nick Astin. However, that was only enough to match the Greyhounds offensive output so the Storm entered the halftime break with an 8-5 deficit.

The third quarter saw Coach Ashton's squad continue to struggle with the Greyhound scoring prowess. However, Nick Askin would add one more goal in the period.

The Storm continued to try to close the gap in the final period, but a late goal from Tim Woods would not be enough to close the gap. The Storm would end up falling by a final score of 13-7.

Statistically, there were some strong points for the Storm. They were led by Nick Askin with 2 goals and 1 assist on 4 shots on goal. Blain Wallace and Dawson Kindall both added 2 goals apiece, and Tim Woods would score once. In goal, Lincoln Potter touted an impressive 0.552 save percentage with 16 saves.

The Lake Erie men's lacrosse team will be looking to get into the win column when the Maryville Saints come to town on Sunday, February 20th for a noon start at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
