Box Score MIDLAND, Michigan — The Storm women's volleyball team traveled to Northwood University to take on the Timberwolves for another GMAC game. The Storm took set three from the Timberwolves at a close 26-24, but lost the fourth set, falling 3-1 in sets. The Storm move to a 2-22 record, and the Timberwolves move to a 13-12 record.
The first set was close in the beginning, with early kills from senior Dora Olah, freshman Jessica Ickes, and senior Maria Blatnik. At a 13-13 tied score, the Timberwolves pulled ahead after a three point run. Junior Taylor Metzler and senior Jordan Taylor fought back with some kills, but the Timberwolves grew their lead and took the set 25-17.
The Timberwolves went on a three point run to start the second set, ended with a kill from Olah. Junior Alexandra Matthews put away a kill for the Storm before the Timberwolves grew an 8-3 lead. Olah put away several more kills to try and bring the Storm back, but the Timberwolves took the second set 25-13 from strong offense and Storm errors.
Olah got the ball rolling for the Storm with a kill to start the third set. Kills from junior Katelyn McMoore, Blatnik, Taylor, and Olah helped the Storm grow a 10-5 lead. Sophomore setter Simone Schurr kept it going with a service ace. The Timberwolves responded with a seven point run to come back and take a 13-12 lead from the Storm. The Storm kept fighting, and would come back from a 20-23 deficit to tie it up at 23-23. A service error from the Timberwolves followed by an ace from Metzler and a kill from Matthews helped the Storm take the third set 26-24, to force a fourth set.
Ickes started the fourth set with a kill for the Storm. The Timberwolves responding quickly, and grew a 14-5 lead. The Storm pushed through, and put away several kills from Blatnik, McMoore, and junior Peyton Lemmer, and Olah to lessen the gap to 10-16. Ickes kept the momentum going with a kill, mixed with some Timberwolves' errors to bring the Storm to a two point deficit 14-16. The Timberwolves went on a short run to grow their lead to 22-14. The Storm did not give up, and went on a run of their own with kills from Ickes and Olah, but could not tie it up. The Timberwolves took the match winning set 25-20.
Schurr finished the match with 21 assists, and sophomore Sarah Leyden with 13 assists. Olah led the Storm in kills, putting away 15.
The Storm travel to Walsh on Friday, October 28th to take on the Cavaliers at 6:00 PM.
