Storm Stomp Timberwolves, 4-1

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, Ohio. – The Lake Erie College Storm men's soccer hosted the Northwood University Timberwolves on October 20 for their second match together on the season. After taking the first game, the Timberwolves would take the loss, 4-0. The Storm improve their record to 7-6-3 on the season with a 6-4-2 conference record, giving them a winning record for the first time on the season.

The Timberwolves would threaten early on, possessing the ball for a majority of the time during the beginning of the first half. Lake Erie would start to shift the momentum and it would lead to Teddy Baker finding Tom Akinola for a goal at the 29:19 mark, giving the Storm a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Northwood defense would appear to deflate a little after the score, with Lake Erie continuing to get good looks but unable to get another shot through the net for the remainder of the first half, giving them the lead going into the locker room.

Going into the second half, it wouldn't take too long for Northwood to get on the board, however, as they would tie things up with a pinpoint shot in the top right corner about six minutes into the half.

With the Timberwolves feeling confident in the early shot, the Storm would rage back and cut take the lead back three minutes later when Teddy Baker would sneak a goal in the bottom left corner on an assist from Gio Da Costa.

A minute later, it looked like Northwood would tie things up again but a beautiful stretched-out save by Tomas Wroblewski would hold them for the moment.

The scoring urgency would continue as both teams heavily pushed and threatened but it was Tom Akinola who would get the next point on the board as he broke the ankles of the wandering goalkeeper and took the easy shot past a defeated Northwood defender. Just two minutes later, Teddy Baker would beautifully place a kick to Connor Mautino who scored the Storm's fourth goal of the game on a header which would prove to be the final nail in the coffin

The Storm will return to action on Saturday, October 22 at home to face the Malone Pioneers for senior night at 6:00 PM.
