Box Score (ELKINS, W.Va.) - The Lake Erie men's lacrosse team jumped back in the win column with an 18-9 victory over Davis & Elkins on Sunday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
The Storm improved to 5-7, 3-4 G-MAC in the final game of the regular season. Davis & Elkins fell to 3-5, 2-5 in conference action.
Lake Erie struck first, taking a 1-0 lead when Tommy Bichsel scored with just over four minutes in the first quarter. Before the Storm got a chance to celebrate the Senators evened the score 1-1 ten seconds later in the match. The scoring action continued two minutes later when the Storm took a lead that they would not relinquish as Dawson Kindall scored unassisted. As the first period closed out Bichsel and Kindall both found the back of the net once more giving the Storm a 4-2 lead after fifteen minutes of action.
The second quarter was dominated by the Lake Erie offense as they finished the first half of action with a 7-1 scoring run. Both teams went into the locker room with a Storm lead of 11-3.
The third period much like the first half was all Storm. Lake Erie sparked another scoring run, this time six goals found the back of the net while the Senators managed to add one in the period.
Davis & Elkins closed out the contest by outscoring Lake Erie 5-1 in the final period, but the damage had been done. Lincoln Potter finished with three goals allowed, eight saves, and nine groundballs between the pipes. Mitch Kiebala split time with Potter at goal and finished with six saves on twelve shot attempts.
Despite the score, the two teams controlled possession evenly as Lake Erie finished with 15-31 face-offs won while the Senators converted 16-31 attempts. The Storm held a 50 to 35 ground ball advantage over Davis & Elkins.
Wallace led all players with five goals and three ground balls. Bichsel, Neil Gardner, and Connor Dent finished with three goals a piece. Wallace and Bichsel also finished with three assists respectively, Gardner added two. Kindall, JP Napier, Tyler Zeplowitz had an assist each.
Tyler Manning continued his spectacular senior season defensively with a game-high nine ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Lake Erie with the win has now clinched a seed for the Great Midwest Championship tournament. The Storm will face No. 4 Mercyhurst for the third time this season. Dates and time for the conference championship have yet to be determined.
