Storm Fall In Overtime at Tiffin, 3-2

Box Score

(TIFFIN, Ohio) — On Thursday afternoon, the Lake Erie men's soccer team lost in overtime to Tiffin, 3-2. The loss drops the Storm to 5-3 on the season, while Tiffin improves to 3-3.

The game was a back-and-forth battle overall, with either team finding chances to win. And while the Storm put up quite an effort, in the end, the Dragons simply were able to get that final goal in overtime that Lake Erie could not.

The Storm started off the scoring in only the second minute of the game, when junior midfielder Arthur Lucas connected on a shot that was assisted by freshman Henrique Santos to give Lake Erie the 1-0 advantage. Tiffin would score the next two goals though, the first of which coming in the 45th minute on an unassisted goal by midfielder Mohamed Abusaiid, before midfielder Juan Rosique picked up an unassisted goal of his own in the 62nd minute.

But Lake Erie would respond in the 69th minute, when sophomore forward Ayden Von Essen scored, unassisted, to tie things up at two. And that's where the score would stand for the rest of regulation, as neither team was able to break the stalemate, and overtime became necessary. That's when, in the 99th minute, Tiffin midfielder Mounir Boutarfa passed the ball to midfielder Caleb Gibbons, who then shot and connected with the back of the net, sending Dragons fans home happy.

Overall, the two sides were very evenly matched in this one, as both teams had similar totals in shots, saves, corner kicks, and fouls. The game also had a staggering eight yellow cards handed out, with four being given to each side.

On the Lake Erie side though, this loss looms large as the team heads into its last game of the season, this Saturday at home at 3:00 p.m. EST against Cedarville. With playoff implications on the line, that contest will certainly be one worth tuning in for.
