Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - It was a see-saw battle in the final minutes of the fourth period between Lake Erie men's lacrosse (0-2,0-0 G-MAC) and Frostburg St. (2-0, 0-0 MEC) on Saturday afternoon in the home opener for the Storm. The two teams matched each other's efforts until the final seconds but it was Frostburg St. with the go-ahead goal with 46 seconds remaining to secure a 12-11 victory over Lake Erie.
The Bobcats were first on the board, after scoring in the opening minutes of the game. Connor Dent would quickly tie the game up quickly a goal assisted by Dawson Kindall at the 9:37 mark. At the end of the first quarter, Frostburg St. held a 3-2 lead.
Lake Erie controlled much of the second quarter and strung together a 3-0 scoring run that was started on off of a Neil Gardner goal that was assisted by Kindall. After Gardner's game-tying 3-3 goal, Blain Wallace netted back-to-back goals giving the Storm their first lead of the day. With two seconds remaining in the first half, Dent would score his second goal of the first half that gave the Storm a 6-4 lead going into the locker rooms.
Wallace and Dent would continue their scoring runs as both attackers scored their third goals of the day both being assisted by JP Napier in the third period. Goals by Tommy Bichsel and Gardner gave Lake Erie a 10-7 lead, which was the largest margin of the game with under 12 minutes left in the game.
Frostburg St. would go on a 4-0 scoring run in a four-minute span to take an 11-10 lead and gain momentum in a crucial point in the game. In a final effort, Wallace would score his fourth goal of the day and his sixth of the season with 1:12 remaining that tied the game at 11-11. Tanner Donaldson would put the game away scoring unassisted with 46 seconds remaining giving the Bobcats the final goal of the game.
Freshman midfielder Bichsel finished with a game-high three assists, Napier and Kindall finished with two assists apiece. Mike Flury, Napier, and Tyler Manning each finished with four groundballs. Despite being on the losing end Lincoln Potter finished the game with 18 saves.
Next up Lake Erie travels to Roberts Wesleyan for a Tuesday, March 9 road contest. The affair is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
