Box Score The Lake Erie men's soccer took the field for the final time in regular season play this season at home against the Ashland Eagles, and they would go on to seal their regular season Great Midwest top spot with a 2-0 win.
The first half of the game saw both teams struggle with cold and blustery weather conditions in Painesville, and neither team were able to create many significant scoring chances. They would enter the halftime break with the 0-0 deadlock.
In the second half, the weather conditions continued to play a role as light rain turned to sleet at times. However, the Storm were able to find their edge with a Connor Mautino goal assisted by Tomas Fernandez in the 80th minute. Just a few minutes later, reigning conference player of the week Teddy Baker was assisted by Ayden Von Essen with a spectacular goal as he chipped the ball over the Ashland keeper. That 2-0 advantage gave the Storm the lead they would need ro come away with a great ending to their regular season schedule.
The Storm will return to action in the second round of the Great Midwest Men's Soccer Championship on Thursday, November 11th at 7 pm at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The opponent for that contest will be determined by the first round contests of the conference tournament.
