Box Score The Lake Erie College men's soccer program took the field in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship final against Ohio Dominican on a wet Saturday afternoon. They were able to clinch their first conference championship in program history with a 2-1 win over the Panthers.
The game got off to a somewhat slow start with both teams trading shots early in the first half. The scoring got started with a goal by Connor Mautino in the 22nd minute. He was assisted by Parker Boyce on the play. Just before the halftime break, Teddy Baker added his 8th goal of the season off of a Jacob McGrinder assist in the 41st minute. The 2-0 would hold until the halftime whistle.
The second half saw Ohio Dominican attempt to mount a comeback with a goal in the 69th minute, but the Storm defense led by defender Ben Wiemann and goalkeeper Tom John were able to hold off the Panther attack to seal the 2-1 win at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
With this win, the Storm now claim both the regular season crown and the conference tournament championship for the first time in program history.
Additionally, the Storm likely locked in a spot to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer national championship tournament with the victory. The matchups and locations for that contest will be announced at 6:30 pm Eastern via live stream on NCAA.com.
