Box Score The Lake Erie Storm took the field in the first matchup of their postseason campaign in the friendly confines of Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on a wet Thursday night contest against Walsh Cavaliers. They were able to pull away with a 5-2 win.
The Storm got off to a characteristic great start with a goal by reigning conference freshman of the year Teddy Baker in the 6th minute. While Walsh was able to respond with a goal of their own, the Storm took the field with 2 more goals in the first half. Conner Mautino was able to net a goal off of a Tomas Fernandez assist in the 29th minute. Shortly after, Alex Ovalle was able to come off the bench and net one of his own off a Teddy Baker assist. The Storm took the 3-1 into halftime.
After the break, the Storm got right back into the groove they started in the first half. Tomas Fernandez scored a goal off a Conner Mautino assist in the 48th minute. Almost immediately afterward, Teddy Baker added another goal of his own off of another Tomas Fernandez assist. Walsh added another goal in the 67th minute, but the Storm would hold on to their 5-2 lead to move on to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday. They will face the Panthers of Ohio Dominican University in that contest at 1 pm.
