Box Score The nationally ranked Lake Erie Storm men's soccer team took the field Thursday night as the first part of a rare weeknight men's/women's soccer double header. Unfortunately, the Storm fell to the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University by a score of 2 to 1.
Ayden Von Essen and the Storm got off to a great start in the match with an early goal that was assisted by freshman Teddy Baker in the 8th minute. The goal was enough to carry the Storm into the half with a 1-0 lead.
However, the second half was controlled by Cedarville. The Yellow Jackets added a goal to even the score in the 50th minute, and just 2 minutes later, would take the lead on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. That was enough to give Cedarville the edge, and they protected that lead for the rest of the match, despite a flurry of shots from the Storm in the final minutes.
Despite the outcome, the Storm were able create quite a few scoring chances. They took 7 corner kicks in the game with 6 coming in the second half as they tried to even the score. Additionally, freshman Tomas Wroblewski had another decent performance in goal for the Storm with 4 saves on 6 shots on goal.
Head coach Louie Rolko and the Storm will look to get back on track when the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans come to town on Saturday, October 16th for a 3 pm kickoff.
