Storm drop Panthers with late goal

Box Score

The Lake Erie Storm men's soccer program traveled to Columbus on Saturday for a contest with the Ohio Dominican Panthers. The Storm had a lot to play for as this match would give either team a clear hold over the top spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's soccer standings, and they looked to avenge a home loss to the Panthers earlier this season. The Storm would come away with a decisive 2-1 victory that was decided in the final moments of the game.

The Storm got off to a fast start with Teddy Baker knocking a shot past the Panther goalkeeper just 6 minutes into the game. The Ohio Dominican offense would respond with a goal of their own in the 25th minute, and the teams would take the 1-1 deadlock into the halftime break.

In the second half, the game would be very closely fought, and both teams would trade shots for most of the second half. However, Alex Ovalle was able to break the deadlock with a shot off of an Inigo Jimenez Garcia corner kick that found the back of the net in the 84th minute.

Defensively, freshman goalkeeper Tomas Wroblewski was able to add to his impressive start to his collegiate career with 7 saves on the day.

Lake Erie returns to action with a home contest on Thursday, October 14th when the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University make the trip to Jack Britt Memorial Stadium for a 5 pm kickoff.
