Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The home opener didn't go as well as Lake Erie had hoped as it fell 15-10 to Roberts Wesleyan at Jack Britt Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The defeat keeps the Storm (0-6) winless on the season as the Redhawks (4-3) won their fourth out of their last five games.
Robert Wesleyan's Hunter Lemieux gave Lake Erie problems all day as he was a figure in eight of the visitor goals with four scored himself and four more in which he assisted. Matt Gademske was also a hot target for the Redhawks as he scored four goals himself with an assist on another.
The Storm did their best to stay in the game despite going down 9-2 with 5:24 to go in the second. It was at about that time the Lake Erie attack headed up and started to rally. Blain Wallace (Jr., Windsor, Ont.) spearheaded the charge as he scored all four of his goals within a 15:35 span that started just before the half.
His first goal came with 1:26 to go in the first half and was the second in a 6-2 run generated by the Storm. Wallace added back-to-back goals in a span of 15 seconds near the end of the third quarter to cut the deficit to three, and did so once again after Roberts scored on a power play with 51 ticks left in the period on an assist from Matthew Cromie (Sr., Oakville, Ont. / Newberry).
That put the score at 11-8, but the Redhawks responded with four consecutive goals to start the fourth.
Goals by Nathan "Beans" Quinn (Sr., Hamburg, N.Y. / Bishop Timon) and Dawson Kindall (Fr., Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central), his first of his acareer, brought the Redhawks advantage back down to five, but time ran out on the Cavaliers.
Cromie also had a big day with four assists and four ground balls. Tommy Bichsel (Jr., Westerville, Ohio / Westerville North) collected three points on a goal and two assists.
Lincoln Potter (Jr., Adelaide, Australia / Henley) started in goal and made seven saves on the day.
The Storm outshot the Redhawks 42-28, but Roberts was able to balance the game with a 36-29 advantage in ground balls.
Lake Erie will continue its home stand and open G-MAC play a week from today when it hosts Walsh a week from today. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
