GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.
The Lake Erie College Storm defeated Davenport University 34-3 on Friday night. The Storm scored bonus points at four of weight with two major decisions, a technical fall, and a fall.
Blake Glogouski, ranked 11th nationally, won the first of nine consecutive bouts for the Storm with a decision at 133.
Andrew Lieb followed up with a technical fall at the seven-minute mark at 141. Brandon Tenney secured a hard-fought decision at 149 before back-to-back wins from Storm freshmen at 157 and 165.
Jacob Potok earned a major decision at 157 and James Penfold put 13 points on the board in a decision at 165.
John Penfold continued the winning ways at 174 with a 5-0 decision. Freshmen Brylan Clouse earned the only fall of the dual at 184, plus his first dual victory in a Storm singlet.
Head coach Jeff Breese is excited to see the freshman succeed. "He battled some injuries early in the season and has missed some opportunities to compete.", said Breese. "It was great to have him get his first dual win in a dominant fashion."
Chris Droege, ranked 13th nationally, earned a major decision at 197. Devin Uzelac capped the night with a last-second takedown to avoid the sudden victory period.
"It was good to see our guys get wins tonight, even if it was not always pretty.", continued Breese. "We did not finish our matches well. We like to have a more entertaining style than we did tonight, but it good to see wins even when we are not looking our best."
Lake Erie returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 18, with many Storm wrestlers competing in the Alma Open.
