Early Goal Helps Storm Weather Northern Michigan

Box Score

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) – Ayden Von Essen's goal in the fourth minute held up throughout the game as Lake Erie defeated Northern Michigan to remain unbeaten on neutral grounds Sunday afternoon. The Storm improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 1-3.

The game was played at Davenport University as the Storm stayed in Grand Rapids after Friday's 2-1 triumph over the Panthers.

Von Essen was able to find the back of the net for the second time this season thanks to an assist by Jonathon Carr, also his first of the year, at the 3:54 mark. Tom John and the Storm defense was impressive in goal once again as he logged his fourth clean sheet of the season.

The upcoming slate will be a friendly one for Lake Erie with the next four games all at home and the first road game afterwards just over an hour away down I-77. The first of those games will come against Cedarville this Saturday. Kickoff against the Yellow Jackets is set for 3 p.m.

It will be the first game of a soccer twin bill with the women to follow at 6. Tickets will be $5 with Lake Erie College students, staff and faculty allowed in free with their LEC Storm ID card.
