Men's Soccer Sets Record In Win At Kentucky Wesleyan

Box Score

(OWENSBORO, Kentucky) – Goals by National Player of the Week Jonathon Carr (Sunderland, England) and Tom Akinola (Brampton, Ontario) helped No. 6 Lake Erie get the result over hosting Kentucky Wesleyan by a score of 2-1 Sunday afternoon. In doing so the Storm (12-0, 8-0) set a new program record for wins in a season.

The win didn't come easy though as the Panthers (4-6, 2-5) made things interesting with a goal in the 58th minute. Thankfully for the Storm, Akinola was able to find the back of the net on an assist from Ayden Von Essen (Hamilton, Australia) just three minutes earlier for what proved to be the game winner.

The Green and White initially got on the board early in the game as Carr scored in the sixth minute. It started an offensive onslaught that saw the Storm outshoot the hosts 14-5 throughout the game, including a 10-1 difference in the first half.

Of the five shots Kentucky Wesleyan was able to take, only two were on target as Tom John (Ahrensburg, Germany) came up with the one save.

For Carr, he now has seven goals on the season to lead the team. Akinola is right behind him with six. Von Essen is second on the team behind Carr's 18 points with 17.

Lake Erie won't have much time to rest as it heads to Cedarville for a midweek clash on Wednesday. Kickoff with the Yellow Jackets is set for 7 p.m.
