PAINESVILLE, Ohio-

The Lake Erie Storm volleyball team (7-11, 2-2) earned their second Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory tonight, after defeating the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans with a final score of 3-2. With the loss, the Trojans fall to 10-10 overall and now have a conference record of 1-3.

Final set scores for tonight were 21-26, 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, and 15-13. The match included 27 tie scores, and 12 lead changes. 

Trevecca edged the Lake Erie offensively tonight. The Trojans earned 55 kills on 180 attempts and 30 errors for a hitting percentage of .139, while the Storm recorded 47 kills on 182 attempts and 33 errors. The Storm defense was slightly better than the Trojans, earning 84 digs and only six reception errors, while the Trojans recorded 93 digs and committed more than twice reception errors than the Storm.

The difference came down to serving, and the Storm was hot tonight at the service line. As a team, Lake Erie earned a season-high (and possibly a program-high) 17 service aces. Storm freshman Dora Olah earned the Lake Erie College volleyball program record for single-match service aces, recording 11. Her performance tonight against the Trojans also sets a Great-Midwest record for single-match service aces.

Freshman Taylor Metzler had herself a night tonight as well, leading the Storm offense with 14 kills and digs each, with a single service ace. Additionally, she was targetted for receptions 49 times, and only had one reception errror. Her performance agaisnt Trevecca secured her fifth double-double of the season, and her eighth match in which she has earned double-digit kills.

Alexandria Becerra also earned her third double-double of the season, recording 34 assists and 16 digs respectively, with a single service ace as well.

Freshman Kaylee Hiser held the defense down as the Storm libero, recording 18 receptions with two reception errors, and 21 digs. Hiser also recorded three straight service aces that helped gain a lead back for the Storm in a key point in the fourth set of the match.

Coming into the match, the Trojans were directly ahead in the conference standings, and the Storm will probably make a jump when the new G-MAC standings come out on Monday. Up next for the Storm will be a test against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Panthers are currently fifth in the G-MAC, and a win over the Panthers would help the Storm make an even more significant jump in the conference standings come Monday. The Storm is set to start against the Panthers at 1 pm on Saturday.
