Storm Falls to U. Indy in ECAC Action

INDIANAPOLIS— The sixth-ranked Lake Erie College men's lacrosse team fell at the University of Indianapolis in ECAC action Thursday (April 7), 9-7.

After the Greyhounds struck first, Courtland Black-Araujo (Bowmanville, Ont./St. Stephen/Onondaga CC) tied the game up with an unassisted goal. After a seven minute stalemate, John Kezerian (Melrose, Mass./Malden Catholic) gave the Storm the lead off an assist by Mitchell Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg).

A little over five minutes into the second, the Greyhounds tied it at two.  Connor Ward (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) answered for the Storm, scoring off an assist by Kezerian, three minutes later.  Late in the half, Shafer scored unassisted to give the Storm a 4-2 lead heading into the locker room.

Defenseman Kole Robinson (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) extended the Storm's lead to three with his third goal of the season.  However, the Greyhounds scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth.

After a back-and-forth action to start the fourth, the Greyhounds increased their lead to two with six-and-a-half minutes to play.  However, Bret Swan (Acton, Ont./Halton Hills) won the ensuing faceoff which led the a Black-Araujo goal just 12 seconds later.  However, the Greyhounds scored their second goal of the quarter to push the lead to two once again.  Shortly after a Storm timeout, Lucas Shafer (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) scored, assisted by Black-Araujo, to cut the lead to one.  However, the Greyhounds added a goal in the final minute to secure the win.

Black-Araujo led the Storm with two goals and an assist. Kezerian and Mitchell Shafer had a goal and an assist apiece. Ward, Lucas Shafer and Robinson also had goals. 

Swan led the Storm with five groundballs while Liam Smith (Webster, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) had three.  Tyler Smoot (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), Zach Bruening (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), Brandon Donohue (South Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon St. Jude) and Mitchell Shafer caused two turnovers apiece.  Tom Lipomi (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) made eight saves.

The Storm is back in action Saturday (April 9) at Lindenwood University.
