Storm Stopped At Start Of U.P. Trip

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College (1-9, 0-7 GLIAC) took the field deep in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the home pitch advantage was too much to overcome in a 4-0 loss to Northern Michigan University (6-2-2, 4-2-1 GLIAC).

The Wildcats struck just eight minutes into this cross-divisional matchup as KC McCary controlled a ball loose in the Lake Erie box and found the back of the net.  The NMU stayed 1-0 going into halftime as Lake Erie was unable to strike a shot in the first 45 minutes.

The shot totals tightened up considerably in the second half as the Wildcats outshot the Storm, 9-6, but Northern Michigan was the team finding the scoreboard.  In the 64th minute, Kim Rietveld doubled NMU's lead with a shot from the right side.  Kylee St. Arnauld extended that lead 10 minutes later with a goal from three yards out on the left side and Nicole Musi completed the scoring in the 84th minute after weaving through traffic to earn a good look at the net.

In goal for the Storm, sophomore Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) made seven saves.

Lake Erie continues its Upper Peninsula on Sunday with a match against Michigan Tech University with a noon start.
