Storm Stopped in ECAC Championship Match

Box Score

LYNDHURST, OHIO – Lake Erie College (8-9-3) suffered the same fate as the 18 teams which came before it as it fell to Notre Dame College (19-0-0) in the final of the ECAC Division II Men's Soccer Championship, 4-0, at Korb Field in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

The host  Falcons were ineligible for NCAA postseason play as a first-year member of NCAA Division II despite their unblemished mark.   As the No. 1 seed, Notre Dame received a bye into the finals while Lake Erie was charged with the difficult task of playing on back-to-back days after a 2-2 penalty kick decision over Salem International University Saturday.

Notre Dame kicked off the scoring 6:26 into the match with a goal from Christian Earnest after a cross from Carlos Manna.  In the 32nd minute, the Falcons extended the lead to 2-0 on another cross as this time Philip Cutler found the head of Tim Owens.

Manna extended the lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute and Notre Dame capped the scoring in the 85th minute as Dean Miller scored from Colton Tanner.

In goal, Lake Erie junior and all-time saves leader Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made nine stops in the contest.

Notre Dame controlled possession and the attempts in the match with a 31-4 edge in shots.

The match ends the Storm's most successful season as a member of NCAA Division II with eight victories including a 5-5-2 mark in GLIAC play.
