Storm Stops Slide with 2-0 Shutout at UPJ

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- After going scoreless in dropping three straight games following their season-opening win, the Lake Erie College women's soccer team found the back of the net twice and held its opponent without a goal for a change in a 2-0 nonconference win on the road Thursday (Sept. 16) at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.

Sophomore Kaitlyn "Skeeter" Holland (North Pickerington, Ohio/North Pickerington) snapped a 321:25 scoreless stretch for the Storm (2-3) with her second goal of the season in the ninth minute.  Freshman N. Paige Petroval (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) connected on a cross from classmate Mandy McCullough (Kenton, Ohio/Kenton Senior) in the 43rd minute for a 2-0 lead.

The offensive output was more than enough for freshman keeper Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows).  Baldacci made seven saves, including four in the second half, in earning her first career victory.

Lake Erie, which had been outscored 13-0 during its three-game slide, outshot the Mountain Cats (1-4) 15-9.  Victoria DerVanik made three saves for UPJ.

The Storm is next in action on Sunday, Sept. 19, at fellow Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) newcomer Ohio Dominican University.
