Box Score PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Second-ranked Mercyhurst College raced
out to a 7-0 lead and held the Lake Erie College men's lacrosse
team's top scorer in check on its way to a 17-3 East Coast
Conference win Wednesday afternoon (April 21) at Tullio Field in
Erie, Pa.
The Lakers (11-0, 8-0), who entered the game leading the ECC in
defense, became the first team to keep freshman attacker Keegan Bal
(Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial Secondary) without a
goal. Josh Becker
(Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca) scored twice for the Storm
(3-7, 1-5 ECC) in defeat.
Mercyhurst scored the game's first seven goals before Joeyjohn
French (Tully, N.Y./Tully) got the Storm on the board
with 8:37 left in the second quarter. The Lakers scored five
more times in the period to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.
Becker scored twice in the third to make the score 14-3. But the
Lakers closed it out with three goals in the fourth to post the
final score.
Four players scored at least two goals for Mercyhurst, including
three with three goals each. The Lakers outshot the Storm,
50-13, and had a 41-21 edge in groundballs.
Lake Erie, which has dropped three straight, has a week off
until hosting Seton Hill University next Wednesday, April 28.
